The Jats: The Jat people are a 33 million strong ethnic group of people native to South Asia mainly in the Punjab region of India and Pakistan as well as in Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Rajasthan, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand , Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Maharashtra all.
Jat, traditionally rural ethnic group of northern India and Pakistan. In the early 21st century the Jats consituted about one-fourth of the populations of Punjab and Haryana nearly 10 percent of the population of Balochistan, Rajasthan, and Delhi; and from 2 to 5 percent of the populations of Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Uttar Pradesh. The Jats of Pakistan are mainly Muslim by faith. The Jats of India are mostly divided into two large communities of about equal size: one Sikh, concentrated in Punjab, and the otherHindu.
Like the other states the Jats consolidated their power during the late seventeenth and eighteenth- centuries. Under their leader, Churaman, they acquired control over territories situated to the west of the city of Delhi, and by the 1680s they had begun dominating the region between the two imperial cities of Delhi and Agra. For a while they became the virtual custodians of the city of Agra.
The jats were prosperous agriculturists, and towns like Panipat and Ballabhgarh became important trading centers in the areas dominated by them. Under Suraj Mal the Kingdome of Bharatpur emerged as a strong state in 1733.Located in the Mewat region,Bharat was well-fortified city ,and the capital of the Kingdom ruled by Jats Maharajas.The trio of Bharatpur ,Deeg and Dholpur has played an important part in the Jat history of Rajasthan.
When Nadir Shah attacked Delhi in 1739, many of the city’s notables took refuge there. His son Jawahir Shah had 30,000 troops of his own and hired another 20,000 Maratha and 15,000 Sikh troops to fight the Mughal.
Suraj Mal is remembered as 'the Plato of Jat tribe' because he leads Jat kingdom at the most successful point. He led the journey in the regions of Agra, Mewar and Delhi agreed to help the Marathas in the third Battle of Panipat.
